Upcoming event days: AT THE NEW FIELD
READ AND HEED!!!
This month, a reminder about safety comes from Joe Krebs, President of the Koast Air Modelers Society in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
-----------------------
Last Monday afternoon, one of our members was at the field to fly.
While awaiting his buddies to arrive, he decided to warm up his engine. His airplane is a 41-44% 3W CAP, with a 3W150 engine, 30" carbon fiber prop. He was there by himself. He started the engine in idle, without any restraint device.
While reaching for the transmitter, his neck strap caught on the throttle stick and advanced it to high throttle. The prop hit him in the right butt, inflicting major damage to that part of his body.
The convicts that work the landfill came to his aid, but they were not allowed to drive, so they ran to the office to get help.
The pilot took off his shirt and packed it in to try and stop the blood. He got in his truck and drove to the office and collapsed.
Other club members arrived at this time, along with the ambulance, and he was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital. He was in surgery for almost three hours. He had a dislocated broken hip, chipped hip and loss of the right cheek of his butt. It nicked the main artery, but didn't cut it. Missed the sciatic nerve by 1/2".
He is in the Ocean Springs Hospital and lucky to be alive.
Take the time to use a restraint or have someone hold your model for you. Don’t lose YOUR butt!
Don't Fly alone!
Thanks - Paul Deeward - VP.
Meeting Minutes for August 28, 2003 by Ernie Schlumberger
President, Tommy Vinci brought the meeting to order at 7:35p.m. with 10 members present at the Old Fayetteville High School due to rain.
Officer Reports:
The Vice President, Secretary and New Member/Training Officer did not have anything to report this month.
President, Tommy Vinci reported that 1 member told him that he saw an airplane flying on the other side of I-85 as he drove on I-85. Tommy reminded all members to keep all flying out in front of the orange poles placed on the field. The poles are located on either end of the field in line with the Pilots line.
Treasurer, Dave Zeigler went over the club’s finances for the month of August. The club had $10.45 in income from a refund on Outdoor rental equipment and $753.10 in expenses related to the Cub Event and SEFF plus the monthly Porta-Potty service. This leaves [healthy] closing balance. [dollar amounts removed for security email treasurer for details]
Old Business:
The search for a New Permanent Flying Site needs to continue since we are on a temporary field (1-3 years maximum). [less] Club Member, Tom Huckaby mentioned he saw a zoning hearing sign on Spence Road regarding part of the property we are on.
All members should keep looking for a site and pass on the info to one of the club officers.
Club Member, Mike McGowan (King Peach Contest Director) shared some stories about The King Peach Electric Sailplane Contest and the AMA National Competitions for Electric RC. Mike also awarded the trophies from the King Peach Contest. Mike had the trophies made to order and they turned out very nicely.
New Business:
Club Member, Frank Hodson mentioned an old airport in Woolsey, Ga., which is closed that would make a good RC site.
Tom Huckaby said the owner of that field had already been contacted by the Field Search Committee and the land had been sold to a developer for a subdivision. [old Rust field]
Tommy Vinci said that the Georgia Jets RC Club has a new field on Ga. 85 south of Senoia, and they were interested in having us hold SEFF at their field next year. [http://www.gajets.net/]
Tommy also told members to think about the Officer Nominations coming up in October. The Club will need to replace the President, Vice President and Secretary since they have said they do not wish to continue for next year.
The Christmas Party including the need to secure the Gathering Place and reset the date due to a Falcon’s home Game on December 7 was discussed.
New Members:
None this month
Broken Prop Award:
No nominations this month.

WE couldn't have done it without Steve and Ric, they were our support and confidants, and we all missed Steve Dukes the music would have had that extra magic only he can produce.
