www.larksrc.homestead.com    BIG BIRD FLY IN .

VP’s Corner by Ernie Schlumberger

Just a quick note to tell everyone about a couple of events held by other clubs within a few hours driving distance. First, the Larks RC Club in Sulphur, Louisiana is holding their annual Oktoberfest Big bird Fly In on the weekend of October 15-17. Giant scale rules apply. They boast a 500’ concrete runway with 500’ of groomed grass overrun area and a parallel 1000’ groomed grass runway. I’ve heard it’s a very good event to go to and it’s only about a 5-6 hour drive. For more info checkout their website at www.larksrc.homestead.com.

Second, the Coffee Airfoilers in Tullahoma, TN are holding their Staggerwing Electric Fly In on that same weekend October 16 and 17. No contests, open flying, raffle on both days, and the skies over Tullahoma will be filled with full scale Beech Staggerwings for the annual Staggerwing weekend sponsored by the Staggerwing Museum Foundation in Tullahoma. For more info checkout their website at www.cafes.net/herb/.

Minutes for the August Fayette Flyers meeting

The meeting was called to order 8-26-2004 at 7:30PM

There were 11 members in attendance.

Officer Reports :
Dave Keller gave the treasurer report in Dave Ziegler's absence.
The club currently has Money in the account.
Jim Beck gave the Secretary's report of 72 current members and
a total 85 flyers when counting junior/family members.
Ernie Schlumberger had the VP report of nuttin'.
Dave Keller also had no general President report.

Special Reports :
Ernie Schlumberger had a NATS report.
Ernie Schlumberger, Ric Vaughn, and Mike McGowan participated in
the AMA NATS this year taking home about 10 trophies between them.
Check the AMA site for more 2004 NATS info.

Dave Keller gave a field update report.
Fayette County has been sporadic on feedback on possible help.
The land off of Tillman Rd is still a possibility, but it has been slow going due to the fact that there are 3 co-owners that have to agree on everything. So far everything looks reasonable and we have an agreement in principal. They are currently conferring with their lawyer.

Dave Keller also made a report on an Atlanta area club president meeting he attended during the month.
It was sponsored by Lou Melcon of the GAMA.
There were 14 club presidents present.
The main topic was the finding and keeping of flying fields.
There are currently 3 - 4 clubs in the area in the same situation as us.
There are also 3 - 4 counties that are currently actively helping clubs find facilities.
It was also noted that our dues are on the low end of the spectrum for clubs in the area.
The other local clubs have offered to give our members a place to fly while we are looking for a new facility.
The purpose of the meeting was to pull the clubs in the metro area together.
It was also noted during the meeting that our current District VP is an appointee that is not even a flyer.
It was also noted that big 3D planes have started to become a noise problem with club neighbors.

There was a discussion to possibly add language to the club bylaws that are a bit more friendly to the members of other clubs that might want to fly at our club.
The issue is still open for discussion.

Dave Keller also noted that he has been in contact with another real estate agent hoping to get some leads on available land.

It was also proposed that the club waive the initiation fee after July or to possibly perform some sort of prorated membership to offset the costs to new members joining mid-year.

It was also proposed, seconded, and passed that Dave Zeigler place [a dollar amount printed here with the minutes was  removed for security by webmaster ask Dave in person if you want to know or attend the next meeting] of the account money in a 6mo CD that would mature in time for SEFF and put some of our money to work
for us.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30PM
