Meeting Minutes for September 26, 2002 by Ernie Schlumberger

President, Tommy Vinci, called the meeting to order at 7:35p.m. with 23 members in attendance. The meeting was held at the Old Fayetteville High School due to rain.

Officer Reports:

Vice President, Tom Huckaby had nothing to report. Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger reported that there are 181 current members and no new membership applicants. He also mentioned the SEFF Event our club hosted was mentioned in the New "Quiet Flyer" magazine (formerly called "Sailplane and Electric Modeler").

Treasurer, Dave Zeigler, went over the Club’s Finance Report for the month of September. The Club had $85.00 in receipts from Membership dues and $376 in expenses from Porta-Potty and Field Maintenance, which leaves a total of all accounts in the amount of $10,090.07.

President, Tommy Vinci reported that due to Daylight Savings Time, next month’s meeting will be on October 24th at the field which should have a Night Fly after the meeting. The meeting date is also one week early because Halloween falls on the last Thursday of the month. The Christmas Party is now scheduled for Sunday, December 8th and the Calendar of Events has been updated to reflect the change.

SEFF Event and Indoor Event Coordinator, Jeff Meyers talked about the upcoming Indoor Event on Saturday, October 5th 6-10p.m. at the Soccer Center East of Downtown Fayetteville on Hwy 54. Additional dates are set for October 26th and November 2nd from 6-10p.m. He also discussed the SEFF Event and that it’s about time to start advertising for SEFF 2003, but we need to pick a location to hold the event since we can’t be sure our field will still be available next June. Jeff would like to have a meeting to discuss possible fields and starting to plan for SEFF 2003. Several possible locations were then discussed which included the following possibilities: Mac Hodges Field in Americus, Ga., Joe Nall’s field in Greenville, SC, and several other places.

Old Business:

Tom Huckaby handed out a flyer for the Club Logo Contest. The winning club logo design will be announced at the Christmas Dinner and the Designer will be given free 2003 membership dues.

New Business:

Phil Meyers discussed possible field locations with the County Parks and Recreation Dept. The County has 1 property site that might work, but it’s still in the planning stage and no decisions have been made on its’ use. The area has a large "green belt" area, which has a pipeline going through it. Phil then brought up the idea of raising the Club Dues for next year. After much discussion, the idea was tabled due to no specific use was determined and there are no set plans for moving to or upgrading a new field.

New Members:

No new members this month.

Broken Prop Award:

Paul DeWaard won (despite giving an almost convincing story on another club member) for crashing a 40 size Cub. The airplane got into a spin and wouldn’t come out.
