PRESIDENT’S CORNER

The hot weather has finally broke and the temperatures are much more bearable. This is bringing many of you out of the house and to the flying field, good to see you there again! This past Thursday was the last meeting to be held at the flying field until spring and we finished it with flashlights so Ernie could take notes!

[Following the meeting our SCHEDULED NIGHT FLY was again flown by Bill Divens and Tommy Vinci flying a Lighted Playboy, Ernie Schlumberger and HIS incredible Lighted PT-Electric, and me [Randy] with my Chandelier Class Spectra 2 meter sailplane and a new comer a Lighted Wingo. We had a HOOT, ya all need to try this.] Jaye Tomlinson flew and landed the Wingo to gain his Night Fly patch.

The next meeting we will nominate officers for the next year. Voting on the officers will be at the November meeting. A reminder! Club dues for the coming year can be paid now and are due before January 1, 2000. They are now $50.00.

Ernest Fleming has volunteered to head up a committee to seek out alternatives to our current runway. The recent survey sent out to the club membership came back that we did not want a paved surface, but we did want to see improvement to our current situation. This has been a much-discussed topic for many months, and has caused many of the club membership a lot of heartburn. Please, if you can offer Ernest help. Remember that he volunteered to head the committee, not be the committee! I am convinced that we will improve our situation. I am also convinced that some are not going to be happy no matter what we do. I think that is called "life"!

The Prez

Meeting Minutes: September 30, 1999 by Ernie Schlumberger - Secretary

The Meeting was called to order at 7:40PM by President Tommy Vinci. Tommy went over the finances for Treasurer Roy Collins who could not attend. The club had $280.00 income from membership dues. There was $1080.00 in expenses from field maintenance and Bulldog Johnny. This leaves the club with total assets of $6985.44. There were 20 members and 2 member applicants in attendance.

Tommy then discussed the Fall Fun Fly on October 2, 1999. Charles Perkins and David Miles were to provide food and drinks and asked everyone to bring a covered dish or desert to eat. Tommy also reported that the club had renewed its IMAA sanctioning.

[The Fun Fly went well from what I could see. Thanks to Charles for cooking again as always and those that brought covered dishes. I did see about 4 major air incidents in the course of about an hour later in the day. Most if not all were from what appeared stalling in a tight turn low to the ground either on final or on a go around. No one was hurt except some pride and at least 1 that I know of will fly again. Big planes low and slow get dirty fast if the lift isn't there. One nice thing, everyone will learn from the experience.]

Vice President Randy Hawkins talked about the upcoming Toys for Tots Fun Fly on November 20, 1999. There would be a $10 donation or new toy donated for the cost of flying that day. Randy also reminded everyone of the Christmas party coming up on December 12, 1999.

Old Business:

Tommy announced the results of the runway survey. The NO’s won by a margin of 29 to 24. This meant that out of 133 members only 24 actually wanted a paved runway. He also said that we are now going to look into other ways to improve the runway. We definitely want to improve the current runway, but it looks like the majority doesn’t want a paved one. Ernest Fleming spoke up and said that we should appoint a runway improvement committee. Tommy asked if he would like the job and he accepted. Ernest will head up the committee and any suggestions or questions about the runway should be directed his way.

The motion to raise the dues was then presented for a vote. The motion passed with all but 5 members in attendance voting for it. As of this date the renewal dues are now set at $50.00 per year.

New Business:

Don’t forget the renewal period begins October 1st thru December 31st. Those renewing after that will be charged a $10 late fee. Those not renewing prior to March 31st will be dropped from current member status and will have to rejoin like a new member.

Broken Prop:

Neil Hagley was nominated for a SAD patch for his Extra 300. The airplane ended up out of range due to the antenna not being extended all the way. Also Gene Norman was nominated for losing his Cap 232 ARF while on a buddy cord by not taking over in time to save it. It was put to a vote and Neil won for this month.

New Members:

There were 2 new members this month: Mark Mclean and Andy Peryan. Please welcome them into the club and they will be in need of a trainer to help them out.
