NO MEETING DECEMBER - MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE TEAM

From the VP - Tom Huckaby

I think we had the largest spectator turn-out our club has ever experienced at our recent Fall Fun-Fly.This on a cold ,blustery day when flying was almost a hazard instead of a pleasure. I believe everyone who came had a good time. I want to mention the people who did the work to make the Fly-In the success it was. First, I want to thank Steve and Nancy Trufemuk (yes, that is their real name) for the excellent Flyer they  made to publicize the Fly-in, Tommy Vinci and Dave Keller and Charles Perkins did the cooking and took in the cash from the sale of the hot dogs, burgers, chips, drinks, hot chocolate and the stew that Charles brought, Randy Hawkins for bringing the hot chocolate and all the "fixin's. We appreciate Jim Beck, Bernie Ortman and Stan McCullough for handling parking so well. Ernie Schlumberger wore many hats as he took care of the Zagi and Nitro combat events and tried to fly his " foamy" Telemaster for the paintball shoot.(Ernie, I couldn't do it either!..Tom) Steve Dukes obtained the Great P.A. system, set it all up and even announced the events and handled the prizes as they were raffled off.Thank you to Mike Brennison for heading-up the Paint Ball shoot. Special thanks to Dave Zeigler for keeping the Paint Ball event going when some of the other pilots? couldn't quite make it. Pee Wee Maddox, Tom Whitehead, Ernest Flemming and others kept us on the proper frequency.John Benario made our helicopter guest feel welcome as they put on a show for us. Thank you, John.  Clare took care of more details than I can mention so thanks go to her also.A special "THANK YOU " goes to all those club members who donated the raffle prizes and who made finical gifts to the project. The last figure I heard was we took in about $1900.00 !!!! This is great.  It will go to a worthy cause. We can all feel pride in a job well done. In working on this project I was reminded of two things. First ,we have a wealth of talent in our club and, Second, We are willing to help out and we work really well together . I hope I did not leave anyone out but If I did please excuse the oversight.....HUCK

Meeting Minutes for October 25, 2001 by Ernie Schlumberger

The meeting began at 7:35p.m. at the Lafayette Education Center (Old Fayetteville Highschool) with 20 members and 4 member applicants in attendance.

Officer Reports:

Treasurer, Dave Zeigler, went over the club’s financial report for October. The club had $510.00 in receipts from new member dues and $455.11 in expenses from BFI, Christmas Party deposit, field maintenance and postage and mailing (club renewal and charity fun fly info). This leaves a total of all accounts of $6430.60

Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger reminded everyone to renew first his or her AMA membership and then renew with the club.

President, Tommy Vinci, thanked Stan McCollough for taking care of putting RoundUp at the base of the fence this year and asked if he would continue for next year also. Stan said he would. Then, Tommy asked for a volunteer to take care of putting out Ant killer on a regular basis. Pee Wee Maddox volunteered for the job. Tommy reminded everyone about the Christmas Party on Sunday, December 9th at the "Gathering Place" in Peachtree City. He also reminded those planning to attend to send an email or get word to Secretary Ernie Schlumberger to let the club know how many are coming.

Vice President, Tom Huckaby, talked about the WinShape Homes Charity Fun Fly for Saturday, October 27th. He said the field was setup and ready to go. He had 500 flyers made and delivered to all the metro area Hobby stores and a newspaper article went into the Fayette County newspaper.

Old Business:

It was time again to nominate club officers. Tommy polled the current officers to see if they would continue in their current position if so nominated. All officers agreed but encouraged others to be nominated. After no one else was nominated, the current officers were renominated. The vote will be held at the November meeting.

A motion was made to create a "membership officer" to handle all new members and coordinate the training program. This motion was readily seconded and will be voted on next month.

Club member, Earl Robinson, made some proposals to the club concerning field safety and usage. He said we had a nice field with a good safety fence. Earl then made the following proposals: 1) All flyers should have a spotter at the fence while flying 2) Club needs to designate a helicopter landing/hovering area 3) The runway airspace is to be designated a " No Fly Over" area and to be used only for takeoffs and landings. 4) Separate gliders/sailplanes/park flyers from Gas/Glow. The upper field could be designated for the Electrics and the lower field for Gas/Glow with some kind of frequency sharing arrangement and 5) No airplanes under the shed. After much discussion, Dave Zeigler motioned for the 3 Safety related items (1-3) be added to our Field Rules and the other 2 items be looked into by a committee. Earl was selected to head up the committee and he selected Jim Beck and Randy Hawkins to be on the committee.

Some discussion then continued about the Bylaws and Tom Huckaby will head up a committee to revamp the Bylaws and Field/Safety Rules and he also will work with Earl’s items. These committees have been asked to make their final proposals at the January meeting.

Tip of the Month:

Stan McCollough got up to the chalkboard (knew he had to since he’s a teacher) and talked about glue and epoxy. He said that any good bond needs surface area to spread out any forces that tend to pull apart the joint. The more surface area – the stronger the bond. Stan recommended using a drill with a 1/16" bit or smaller to put holes in the surface area of a joint. He also said that the "woodpecker" tool would also work for the application.

New Members:

This month we had 4 new members join our club. Please welcome Chet Winkles, Eric Scheulin, and Lyle Rayworth to the Fayette Flyers.

Broken Prop:

Earl Robinson was given a Team Kamikaze Patch for a Sailplane "Spot" Landing that required him to dive out of the way. (Maybe could add that move to the LES achievement program).
