June 28-SAT- Kids Spring Fling
Hotdog cookout (Non-Sanctioned) -3 pm Annual King Peach Junior HLG and Rubber Free Flight event. Rain day June 30. See Dave Zeigler for details. Calmer winds in the afternoon and hotdogs provided by the club bring the family. Field closed to other forms of flying. Field Location in process.GOOD NEWS!
The club has secured another flying site. It does need some work (obviously), but we should be able to get everyone back into the air pretty quickly. The field was the prior location for the "Renaissance Festival" before it moved to its current location. To do this of course we will need your help! It is fairly flat, but will require some work. Our intentions are to reinstall the fence, frequency board, porta-potti, get some gravel in the wet areas of the existing road and that is about it! First work days are planned for the week of Memorial Day.
The new location is pretty close to our old field. If you were to exit our old field location and turn right going towards I-85 you can access it by turning on right on
OAKLEY INDUSTRIAL. Go on OAKLEY INDUSTRIAL till the first intersection. You will then turn left on SPENCE ROAD (this is also Hwy 92 out of Fayetteville). Go approximately ¾ of a mile and you will see a gate on your left (the second one!). This is our new location. If you get to the bridge which crosses over I-85, you went to far.
The field is not a permanent home, it is temporary. We may be here through the summer or we may be there for several years. It is under contract, and the new owner is aware and approved of our using the field. His intention for the property is "long term development" for commercial use. Our goal is still to secure a piece of property for purchase so we will have a permanent location, so do not cease keeping your eyes and ears open for possible sites and get this information to one of your officers for follow up.
While your at it you might give John Benario a "thank you" for telling the club officers about this piece of property and Tom Huckaby for all the leg work he did with the information.
Tommy Vinci - President Fayette Flyers
Meeting Minutes for April 24, 2003 by Ernie Schlumberger
President, Tommy Vinci brought the meeting to order at 7:35p.m. with 18 members in attendance at the Lafayette Learning Center.
Officer Reports:
Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger reported that the Club has 131 members.
Vice President, Paul DeWaard had nothing to report.
Treasurer, Dave Zeigler, went over the Finance Report for the month of April. The Club had $310.00 in receipts from Membership Dues and SEFF Pre-Registration income. The Club had $767.29 in expenses from SEFF signs, fence post puller and postage which leaves $12,047.53 for a closing balance.
President, Tommy Vinci reported that all of the Club owned items (except Yellow Storage Shed) has been removed from our old Flying Site and No Members should fly at the old site since that field is no longer covered by the Club with AMA insurance.
New Business:
Tommy Vinci reported that Ted Allison (owner of Newnan Hobby Store) has acquired the use of 80 acres from Coweta County for the purpose of starting a club. He is asking for 10 people to contact him and to start a new club using the new field.
Tommy then announced that the Fayette Flyers have a Tentative agreement with the Company MD Hodges for the use of the old Renaissance Festival Parking Lot located directly behind the Waffle House and McDonalds at the intersection of I-85 and Hwy 74. The field will only be temporary for 1-3 years max while we find something to buy or lease. We still need to obtain Flying Site Insurance and the Owner’s final agreement, which includes another Corporation that, is about to purchase the property later this year. After we get approval, Club Members will be notified and we will call a workday to help clear the field of rocks/debris and get the field ready to fly.
Tommy also reported that we would get Club Member, Bill Divins to take a scanner to the new site to check for frequency interference (update: none found).
Club Member, Jim Beck announced that there would be a SEFF Planning meeting Saturday, May 3rd at Mac Hodges Field in Americus, Ga. at 10:30a.m.
