Don’t forget to get your Cubs ready for the ALL CUB Fun Fly on July 18 & 19 hosted by Tom Huckaby at the Flying Griffins field.

Meeting Minutes for May 29, 2003 by Ernie Schlumberger

President, Tommy Vinci brought the meeting to order at 7:40p.m. with 27 members in attendance at our New field off Spence Rd. along I-85.

Officer Reports:

Training/New Member Officer, David Keller had no new Training/New Member items to discuss. However, he brought up the proximity of I-85 to our field and suggested that the Field Rules be updated to take in consideration our New Location.

Treasurer, Dave Zeigler went over the Club’s Finances for the month of May. The Club had $2889.35 in receipts ($60.00 from a late membership dues and the rest from SEFF Pre-Registration) and $1962.12 in expenses from Field Maintenance (Gravel, Tractor, Moving Expenses), Late receipt turn in for Christmas Party, and Port-A-Potty. This leaves a total of $12, 974.76 in the closing balance.

Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger reported that the Club Membership still stands at 131 and no new applicants at this meeting.

Vice President, Paul DeWaard announced that we have a New Lock installed on the entrance Gate and the Keys will be distributed at Workdays and Meeting until the field is open for flying, then the remaining keys will be mailed out. Paul proposed giving an honorary membership to Mike Oliver who installed the entrance Gate FREE of charge. No objections were made. Paul said Mike has expressed interest in learning to fly.

SEFF Coordinator, Jeff Meyers reported that we have 93 Pre-Registered Pilots, 24 Vendors and 12 New Products to be released at SEFF along with over $11,000 worth of Raffle Prizes. Four Magazines will be covering the event and local TV (Columbus, Ga.) will cover the event on Friday. We also have many Great Demo Pilots from the TOC (Tournament of Champions) coming to exhibit some Great Flying.

Cub Event Coordinator, Tom Huckaby talked about The All Cub Fly-In which is coming up July 18 and 19 at the Griffin Field (held here due to our temporary field location). Any Cub, Any Size and Any Motor.

Dave Zeigler announced that the Annual Kid’s Event will be rescheduled for a later date. He also reported that Fayette County Schools cleaned up in the Science Olympiad National Championship. Dave coaches 3 schools in Fayette County. Booth Middle School was the National Champion with Rising Star taking 4th overall. One of Dave’s kids posted a record Indoor time of 5:08 with a Rubber Powered Free Flight Plane. Congratulations to Dave and all the kids that he coaches for a job well done.

President, Tommy Vinci talked about our new field. He said we have the use of the field for 1-3 years or until the Office Park Construction is started, but we are still looking for a Permanent Field for Lease or Purchase. The Club ran an ad in local papers looking for land but had no calls on it. Tommy said we are getting some fill dirt and going to level out the runway then call a Workday to clear rocks, debris and install fences/pilot stations, etc. He also said a frequency check of the field shows no radio interference.
