PRESIDENT’S CORNER July

The wind has been blowing fairly consistently as of late, and has really messed up some good days of flying. Many of us have gone anyway and sharpened up our pilot skills, and many of us have not! Finally got some rain, some relief from the heat and some relief from the wind and managed to get in some good days of flying. Hopefully the trend will continue.

I want to wish some our members the best of luck as they venture off to the N.A.T.’s for competition in many classes of gliders and sailplanes. Mike McGowan, Earl and Chuck Robinson left this past Monday for the event and generally do quite well. A report next month on how they faired.

Mr. Huckaby, if your reading this … Randy is getting tired of hearing about the article your going to write! Something about wanting to read the article that you wrote and you have plenty of time to do so now that your retired. Maybe you and PeeWee could team up and write one cause I’m tired of hearing him complaint to me about it!

Got to go, working on several projects, both here and at work!

Attention! Attention! Attention! Attention!

I haven’t been able but notice lately that some of us have apparently forgotten some of the basic rules of our club and I would not be doing my job if I didn’t say something about it. When did it become okay to fly over the pit area? Your correct, it hasn’t. When did it become okay to do all your flying directly over the center of the runway instead of out past the other side? Your correct again, it hasn’t. When did we decide that it was correct to take off down wind or have people taking off and landing in both directions at the same time? Correct again, we haven’t! What about taxing in the pits, I don’t remember this becoming the right thing to do.

Come on guys, we have run a very safe club and everyone has always had a great time in doing so, and we are going to continue to do so. Do not fly over the pit area, with gas or electric. Once your takeoff has been completed, do your flying out on the far side of the runway so that it is always open for departures, arrivals, and yes even dead sticks! Walk your aircraft out to the runway to prevent any chance of it getting away and possibly injuring someone or damaging someone’s pride and joy (might I remind you that you would be responsible for replacing said aircraft!). Do not fly gas-powered models behind the shelter for any reason and for goodness sake everyone make all takeoffs and landings in the same direction (I prefer into the wind myself).

Club is looking for a few of you club members who are capable to help out with training of new members. We need some help, right Randy!

Meeting Minutes: June 29, 2000 by Ernie Schlumberger

President, Tommy Vinci, began the meeting introducing a guest speaker for the Fayette County School System Mentor Program. Debbie Stephens made an appeal for club members to think about donating one hour each week during the coming school year to mentoring a student. She said no special talents were required. The kids just need someone to be their friend and share your time with them. These are kids that need a role model in their lives.

Treasurer, Dave Zeigler went over the Club’s finances for the month of June. The club had $4082.81 in expenses that included the new Bush Hogs for the field, Porta Potty, the shelter addition materials, Fun Fly expenses and Contest expenses. There was $378.00 in receipts from membership dues, which brings the total of all accounts to $5,971.96.

Tommy Vinci then talked about the upcoming Combat Day on Saturday, July1st, 10am till we run out of planes. Dave Zeigler gave a report on the Kids Spring Fling contest. He said that there were 22 contestants this year.

New Business:

Club member, Tom Carswell, made a suggestion to setup a scheduled time each week for trainers and student pilots to come out to the field and work together. Several members said that sounded good, but no decision was made.

New Members:

This month we added 1 new member to the club. Please welcome Nico Van Splunter and his son, Peter to the Fayette Flyers.

Broken Prop Award:

This month we had several nominations for the Broken Prop Award. The winners were Tommy Vinci and Bill Divins for their F16 Electric Ducted Fan that did a Barrel Roll into the ground after being bungee launched. Bill’s crash report showed the antenna still coiled up in the factory rubber band causing very short range receiving distance. A Team Kamakaze award was given to them.

Meeting Minutes: July 27, 2000 by Ernie Schlumberger

Officer Reports:

President, Tommy Vinci, called the meeting to order at 7:40p.m. There were over 30 members and 12 member applicants in attendance.

Treasurer, Dave Zeigler, then went over the club’s finances. For the month of July, the club had $85.00 in receipts and $122.14 in expenses, which leaves $5971.41 total of all accounts. A check for $1000 was written for the field owner’s (Truett Cathy) charity Winshape Home. Tommy Vinci and Tom Huckaby will present the check in early August.

Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger reported that as of prior to the meeting, the Fayette Flyers had 133 members. With the 12 joining at this meeting, that brings the total to 145 members.

Tommy Vinci then thanked Charles Perkins, his wife, Jennifer and David Miles for the Great job of cutting the field.

Old Business:

Tommy Vinci talked about the shed and fence again. He said that the work would begin as soon as possible.

New Business:

Saturday, August 12 is an "Electric Fun Fly" Day. Anything and everything electric powered. The intent is for club members to see and learn about electric powered R/C Flight.

Tom Huckaby asked if there was enough interest in having a "Big Bird Fly In" later this year or early next year. Several members expressed an interest.

It was also reported that all but 1 chair has been stolen from the field again. Bring a chair if you want a place to sit down while at the field.

New Members:

This month, we welcomed 12 new members to our club. Please welcome Phillip Wallace, Brian Hursey, Jim Beck, Steve Brownlee, Scott Will, Tracy Brooks, Larry Baldwin, Danny Abercrombie, Dale Meierotto, Art Epperson, Gerry and Brian Gizelar, and Ken Hendricks.
