Prez Tommy Vinci, normally
[Would have comments here but he is recovering from hours and hours of work he has done in the last 2 months. Tommy worked the SEFF event all 3 days rain and shine, prepped the field the 2 weeks before hand with Charles Perkins on the mowers for about 18 hours. Cooked hotdogs at Dave Ziegler's Kids Summer fun HLG event and helped out anywhere needed with the kids, prepped the field again for Tom Huckaby's CUB event prepared food and worked the event as needed, and yesterday worked the Family Fun Fly, prep and Food in scorching heat. He did manage to get a flight or 2 in during the past 2 months, but when your working and preparing events back to back each weekend the time to sit and write a column gets lost in the need for rest. Oh yeah and that other thing that keeps getting in the way the REAL FULL Size job called Work the one you get paid to do.]
Thanks Tommy for all your Hard Work at the Club.
Randy
VP Comments - Tom Huckaby
Well, We had 32 Cubs with 25 registered pilots at The All Cub Fun Fly July 13, '02. The Cubs Ranged in weight from 3# to 45# with the average being 17# and a wingspan of 39" to 144" averaging 97".There were (21) two stroke, (9) four stroke. and (2) electric powered Cubs. Of the two strokers 10 were gas and the rest nitro powered.
There were (11) 1/4 scale and (8) 1/3 scale Cubs. Twenty of the Cubs were built from kits, five were scratch built from plans, one was a highly modified kit and five were ARF's.
Twenty of the twenty five pilots were members of R/C clubs. We had guests from MS., KY., two from N.C. and three from Fla. All the rest were from Georgia. There were Seven Fayette Flyers who flew in the Fun Fly.
Every registered pilot flew at least one of his planes, some flew all they brought. There were planes in the air almost all the time.
There were (11) JR ,(8) Futaba ,(3) Hitec,(2) Airtronics and (1) Kraft radios used. The experience or the pilots ranged from (6) months to (60) years. A total of 672 years in all. The average was 26.9 years.
We had no crashes and in fact no one hit the fence. This attests to the skill of the pilots.
The prizes and plaques were awarded to the winners by a vote of their fellow pilots. Since there were no crashes, during the Fun FLY, there were no ballots cast for "The Best Crash Bucket" award. We asked the pilots to vote instead for an "Honorable Mention" plane which they did. The result was a tie between Bill Divins and Ted Pepin. They were each awarded a $25.00 gift certificate from Hobby Town USA of Duluth, Ga. Mr. Charles Brooks (The Cub Man) himself) from Ky. won The Most Unusual Cub plaque and the Great Planes Electric Cub Kit donated by our own Hobby Stop.
Mr. Slick Larson, Master Builder, Pilot and all round Southern Gentleman , won The Most Realistic Flight plaque and the 68" ARF Cub Given by MAXX Products. The Best of The Show Plaque and a 1/4 Scale Cub kit from Balsa USA was won by Joe Krebs of Gautier MS. He won this with a highly detained 1/3 Cub he built from a Balsa USA Kit.
Paul DeWaard, worked all during the Fun Fly, so when it was over he attempted to fly his .25 sized Cub. He managed to add an inordinate amount of up and left thrust to the engine as a result of a less than perfect take off. I felt it appropriate to award him the "Best Crash Bucket" on the spot and I did. Paul accepted it graciously. Bill Tinsley and a pilot buddy of his made a fly-by in their two 1-to-1 scale Cubs. You had to be there!
I heard many nice things from our guest concerning the event and our club can take pride in a job well done. I have sent a personal "Thank You" to all those who assumed and discharged specific tasks. They all did a GREAT job. I would also like to thank the club membership in general for your support of this event We don't have all the bills in yet but I think we made a little bit.

Meeting Minutes for June 27, 2002
by Ernie SchlumbergerPresident, Tommy Vinci, brought the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. with 31 members, 2 membership applicants and 1 guest present.
Officer Reports:
Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger, reported that the club had 178 members as of the beginning of the meeting.
New Member/Training Officer, David Keller, said that he loaned out 2 of his Buddy Boxes and he would like the members that have them to contact him.
Treasurer, David Zeigler, went over the Club’s Finances for the month of June. The club had $7470.15 in income from SEFF and membership income and $6767.21 in expenses for SEFF, Contest Expenses, Field Maintenance/Structures, Tractor and Field cutting and Porta Potty, which leaves a total of $10,852.67 in all accounts.
David then reported the totals from the SEFF event. SEFF Total Income was $8408.15 and expenses totaled $5463.24. He said there were still some outstanding receipts so he expected about $500 more in expenses. This brings the expected amount of income from SEFF to be around $2500.[NOT BAD for the SISSY AIRPLANES HUCK]
SEFF Coordinator, Jeff Meyers, thanked everyone that helped out with the event. S&E Modeler, Model Sport Video Magazine and RC Modeler covered the event and we hope to see some articles in the magazines soon. We had 130 registered Pilots (and approximately 800 spectators) over the 3-day event. Hobby Lobby, our primary sponsor, was very pleased the way we handled the event and were impressed that this was our First Major Event. All of the sponsors had a great time and said they would be back again next year. The only thing they said could have been better was the weather. Jeff said that S & E Modeler has committed to advertising for us again next year.
President, Tommy Vinci, said that the Captains for SEFF event did a Great Job and had plenty of help. Tommy was proud that the club worked together so well and put on a Great Event.
Tommy then mentioned the large mounds of dirt in the upper field. He said the mounds are Perk Tests for Development. Apparently, there is someone in the process of buying the property the Club’s Field is located on. Tommy said as soon as more info is available, he would send an email to the Club Secretary to pass on to all members.
Upcoming Events:
Dave Zeigler covered the Kids "Summer Fun" Event that is scheduled for Saturday, June 29 from 3pm – dark. Hotdogs and drinks will be provided to the kids and their families participating in the event.
Tom Huckaby covered his Cub Fun Fly scheduled for Saturday, July 13. So if you have ANY Cub, ANY size, ANY color or power, come on out for a fun, relaxed event.
The Club’s Family Cookout and Fun Fly is scheduled for Sunday, July 21. Tommy and Charles Perkins plan to cook ribs and chicken.
Old Business:
Phil Meyers is heading up a committee to look into buying a field and setting up an owner/membership club. With the Perk Tests being run on the property our field is located on, this item seems very timely. Phil asked for volunteers to explore this idea. Steve Trofemuk, Tom Whitehead, Paul DeWaard, David Keller, Jeff Meyers and Jim Beck all volunteered to help.
New Business:
None this month.New Members:
This month our club had 2 new members join our ranks. Please welcome Lance Kelly and John Fitzgibbons to the Fayette Flyers.
Broken Props:
There were a couple of nominations but John Fitzgibbons and Ernie Schlumberger won a Team Kamikaze award for a Trainer plane that flew into the backside of the large oak tree north of the runway. (Some welcome for the new member!)
