January 1999 Welcome all to a NEW Year of RC Flying

NEW KEY TO OUTER GATE>>>NEW COMBO ON INNER GATE THIS WEEKEND Jan 30th.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Okay, it’s a New Year and most of your building should be well under way or even completed by now. There will be many events scheduled for you, the membership of this club, to take part in this coming year with all of your new aircraft. Don’t miss the opportunity to do so. Many of your fellow club members put an awful lot of work and time into staging these events, so support them by showing up and taking part.

There has been a change in your elected officers since the last meeting, Dave Zeigler has allowed Ernie Schumberger, with help from his wife Clare, to assume his responsibilities as Secretary. Dave is doing a wonderful job with the youth in our area and will be able to spend more time on this. Ernie has been "begging" to do more and will do a good job.

Dave is NOW the Official Youth Coordinator for the Fayette Flyers.

What about them FALCONS!!!! On the day the FALCONS beat the VIKINGS for the Championship, and the right to go to the SUPERBOWL, two of our club members distinguished themselves. I have it on good authority that Tom Huckaby and Jim "Doc" Richardson gave play by play accounts of the game in the last quarter and overtime period so that others could fly and not miss any of the action! Way to go guys!!

Remember, think Safety, Safety, Safety .............Always think S A F E T Y !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year by Ernie Schlumberger - Secretary

Well, I guess 1999 is off to a screaming start. It’s already halfway through the month of January and it only feels like Christmas was yesterday. Several club members took advantage of the great weather on New Years Day and rang in the New Year with a little flying. The weather could not have been better. It was 60ish with calm winds. Tommy Vinci even took time off from hunting to get a little flying in.

So far this building season has been busy for me. Besides the 5 foam Telemaster paint ball planes, I’ve built a SIG Wonder (for combat day) and 7/8ths almost complete with a Great Planes Dazzler. Next on the build list are a Great Planes Spectra, a Carl Goldberg Extra 300 (60 size), and an electric powered Puddlemaster. Hopefully I won’t run out of building season before I get around to them. The Spectra will be a joint venture with my wife Clare. I’m teaching her how to fly-so I might as well teach her how to build too. It should come in handy when she solo’s. [She's got her AMA card and taking off and landing on a cord get the glue]

There have been a lot of inquiries into how we cut the wings for the foam Telemasters. I found an excellent article in the Model Aviation magazine July 1998 edition. Starting on page 49, T. Michael Jennings tells you how to build a Bowflex Foam Cutter for under $30.00. It looks very simple to make and I’ll probably slip that into the building schedule soon. Happy building and see you at the field.

PS. Bring your club membership card to the next meeting and get it laminated free.

Special Mention:

Club member Chuck Robinson received two mentions in Model Aviation’s Dec. 1998 issue for his 5th place finish in the Class B Sailplane at the 1998 Nats (National Aeromodeling Championships). Chuck also received a second trophy there for his 6th place finish in Class A Sailplane.

Recognition also goes to Mike McGowan and Dave Zeigler as they were presented with plaques at the Christmas dinner in honor of all the work they do with the youth in teaching them about aviation through modeling.

Let's see where to begin, ah a story about one of our club members or maybe more. Won't mention any names.

Something that was described in detail one Saturday at the Hobby Stop amongst friends of a certain 2 meter Goldberg Electra that was lodged quite nicely up a 80 foot pine. Had been there for a few weeks and refused to come down through wind and rain. Seems as it was told "I shot 3 boxes of 410 buck at it and it's still up there" brings an interesting picture to mind. Another was just told a little more recently about attending "last weeks" Club meeting and nobody else showed up at the high school. The problem with that was the lost time event from the UFO trip to Pa. over Christmas I think. The MEETING is this Thursday… always the LAST Thursday of the Month. Another was something about a Brand new "looking" 1983 something or other car and the Alabama law enforcement's ideas of just what constitutes a speed limit, I gee It sure is a pretty Car. Another is Just why does he always wear that pink hat? Another Ahhhhhggggg WHO's on the computer RUN RUN, wait till he finds the Yellow Jackets web page. Another did you ever notice that if you looked at SUN it'll make you sneeze. Another, so just Why do you keep putting suntan oil ON your forehead then. Another Sorry… there is really NO way to keep the oil off your airplane, live with it, love it clean it. I just leave mine drip. Another OH back is UP. And the thoughts go on. Hey … it beat talking about the Waffle House.

Field Safety: CALLLLLL your landings.

LOOOOOK before taking off.

DON'TTT fly over the PITS.
