Field Status:

Clearly the most pressing issue before the club membership is the acquisition of a more permanent field site. Our current use of the Knight Group site adjacent to I-85 is rapidly coming to an end. One of our members was recently informed by a representative of the owners that they will begin moving dirt in about two weeks. Indications are that the work will not immediately impact our landing strip and we will be able to fly for a period of time after work begins. Regardless, I will propose at the next meeting that we remove the frequency board and portable toilet so that these items don’t come up missing like out last shed.

As for another site we have received several tips, yet non have quite worked out yet.

1) We have not given up on the site across the interstate from the existing field. A letter was forwarded to the AMA requesting a clause to waive coverage should a crash occur damaging a car along Irwin Road (an extremely remote possibility). At this time we are waiting on a reply from the AMA.

2) Tom and Ernie once again researched the land fill by the Home Depot in Fayetteville. They were informed that EPA regulations still prevented anyone from using this facility. Additionally, the county or city suggested a site adjacent to the land fill, but this was too hilly and covered with trees. We will still continue to look into this idea until all hope is exhausted.

3) We were forwarded information about land the county had purchased for a new High School along Highway 34. Thus far a representative of the school board indicated that the conditions of the recent sale precluded them from allowing anyone to use this land.

4) We were forward information concerning use of a small dairy farm on the east side of Fayetteville. The owner of this property was not willing to allow more than 15 to 20 personnel to use this field, so for a club the size of the Fayette Flyers this was not practical.

Should you have any further suggestions, tips, or ideas please don’t hesitate to call me at 770-502-9455. We will do our best to investigate every lead. Also if anyone knows any members of the Fayette County, Fayetteville or Peachtree City governments that may be willing to assist please let us know. Finally if anyone is a real estate agent or has a relative in this occupation and would have access to listings of land for sale, please let us know.

VP’s Corner by Ernie Schlumberger

After a long winter/building season, we are finally getting some good flying weather. We all need to get out and enjoy the last couple of weeks at our current field before construction begins on the Town homes.

Also, don’t forget about the Upcoming Southeastern Model Show in Perry, Georgia on Friday/Saturday March 5-6. This year the hours have changed. The doors open to the swap area at 5:00p.m. Friday with Indoor Flying until 9:00p.m. They re-open Saturday morning at 8:00a.m. so we’ll get to sleep in a little later and still catch the early bird deals.

This year there will be 820 tables of Model Stuff to look at. Admission is $7.00 for both days, $6.00 for Saturday and $3.00 for kids. Speaking of kids, there will be a whole area for them. Freedom Flight (Dave Zeigler’s Company) will again be hosting the Building and Flying Sessions of Free Flight Planes. The planes Dave designed are some of the best flying Free Flight Planes around.

See you in Perry.

Meeting Minutes

January 29 2004

Meeting started 7:30PM at the adult learning center in Fayetteville.
There were 11 members and 1 applicant in attendance.

There was no old business.

New business:

David Keller reports that 3 new members have soloed over the month two of them are a father son pair, Kyle and Patrick Bradford.
Tom Huckaby said they were quite a "pear", and believe me it was just as humorous there as it has been recorded here.

A motion was entered to allow for the rental of a storage location for the club items and for a place to consolidate the SEFF items prior
to the event. This is to be a temporary rental pending the location of a more permanent flying field where a storage building can be located.
The motion was seconded and passed.

Since Jeff Meyers was out of town for the meeting Jim Beck gave a condensed SEFF report that consisted of the further need for volunteer help and and the offer that is being made to individuals to try and get some more volunteer workers. What is being done is that anyone that volunteers to work two shifts of two hours a piece per day for the three day event is going to be "comped" [paid for] their hotel room, a SEFF shirt, their pilot fee, and their BBQ ticket.

Getting future SEFF events closer to home/here was also discussed.

The current field is still open and a possible waiver concerning Irwin road is being investigated.

Huck volunteered to look into the old dump site again.

The broken prop award went to Kyle Bradford and a missed attempt at a loop with his Soar Star.

We also welcomed a new member to the club, Sam Jones.
