PRESIDENTS CORNER
One meeting down and ten to go! We had a great turnout for our first meeting and some good discussions on many different topics. I hope your reading the newsletter to keep up with what is going on. Dont miss the next meeting, as Tom Huckaby will have his:
"Tips for the Month" and be passing this new addition to the club meeting along to another member for March (and so on, and so on)! [Tom's early tip is...
Don't Crash!!!]Our club is holding a "work day" this month on Feb. 24th for the purpose of clearing the small pine trees off the left end of the runway. We want to remove these before they are too tall for us to be handle easily. A large chipper is being secured for the purpose of grinding up the trees as we cut them. If anyone wants some mulch, you know where it can be gotten, and the price will be right! If we can get a good response from club members, along with their chain saws and gloves, this will go easily and no one will have to work too hard. If not, some of us will!
I have already seen one glider in a tree this year, dont know the pilots name, but maybe one of you do! "Broken Prop" nomination maybe? Check your radios and airplanes over, great flying weather is just around the corner!

We kicked off the first meeting of the New Year at 7:40p.m. with 18 members and 3 membership applicants in attendance.
Officer Reports:
Treasurer, Dave Zeigler, went over the clubs finances for year 2000 and January 2001. The club had $1410 in receipts and $218.97 in expenses bringing the total of all accounts to $8051.23. Dave pointed out that BFI increased the Porta Potty servicing fee from $105 to $124 per month.
Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger, gave a report on the status of club membership. Currently, there are 162 members in the club database (105 of them have renewed from 2000, 15 are new 2001 members and 42 have not renewed yet). All members that dont renew by March 31st will be dropped from the club roster (database).
Vice President, Tom Huckaby, secured the large classroom at the highschool for this year and welcomed the members to the New Year.
President, Tommy Vinci, went over the year 2001 Calendar of Events. There are several changes. Check out the Web Page to see them. New this year and not on the calendar is a Field Cleanup Day on Saturday, Feb. 24th. The main focus will be clearing small pines to the left of the runway. Bring chainsaws and work gloves. (Any chippers/shredders would help too.) [Snake bite kits welcome.]
Club member, Earl Robinson, talked about the May AMA sanctioned Electric Sailplane Event our Club will be hosting. This year should be a great event with competitors coming from several other states.
Old Business:
Dave Zeigler
talked about last months suggestion of a Club expense card. He said it would cost about $45 a year to maintain and several banking people recommended against it. This idea will be dropped.New Business:
Tommy Vinci
covered this years expected Expenses/Improvements for our club. The Porta Potty, [Just keep it down wind or in the pines] Field grass cutting, Gravel replacement, Removal of old shed with the replacement of a new vinyl storage building and Yearly donations to Truett Cathys Winshape Homes round out the expenses.Dave Zeigler talked about the upcoming Perry Swapmeet to be held March 3rd. Dave will be running the kids building and flying area again this year. He asked that anyone interested in helping out to contact him. He also will be hosting the Friday night "Indoor Fly In" in the same building the night prior to the Swapmeet.
New Members:
This month we had 3 new members join the Fayette Flyers. Please welcome Mitch and Greg Mitchell, Jody and J.C. Jennings and Bob Turner.
Show and Tell:
Ted Hatfield brought in an airborne Video Camera/Transmitter package that he will be trying out on his Dynaflight Butterfly. It will transmit black/white video up to 3 miles to any TV on Channel 59 and requires a novice ham operators license.[Now if Ted could just fly his Butterfly more than 100 feet from the pits]
Broken Prop:
Several nominations were made, but Josh Thorner was awarded a Crasher Patch for a pair of crashes. One was a Corsair into the trees and the second one was his Ultra Stick into the ground.[good building weather Josh]
Tip of the Month:
Tommy Vinci brought in his new Midwest Balsa Cutter that cleanly cuts Balsa sticks at several angles. It costs about $20, but it is well worth it.[Great for pruning your roses too!] Also, he picked up a Ryobi Palmsander and said it works great for sanding R/C airplanes using 220 grit sandpaper.
