VP’s Corner by Ernie Schlumberger
I just want to share with you another event that some Fayette Flyers took part in. Ric Vaughn, Mike McGowan, Mike DeBoer and I were up in Muncie, Indiana (AMA Headquarters) for the Electric RC Nationals during the latter part of July and the first week of August. Mike DeBoer was kind enough to go along to help run the event with Ric and me and to time for the competitors that needed a timer. Ric Vaughn is the NEAC (National Electric Aircraft Council-Special Interest Group that runs the competition) President and is assigned the duties of running the Electric RC NATS. Mike McGowan is the NEAC Treasurer and helps Ric administer the NEAC duties.
Mike McGowan also competed and helped run the RC Soaring NATS the week prior to the Electric NATS. Between the three of us that competed, we brought home quite a few trophies including a couple of 1st and a couple of 2nd places. It was fun to compete with others from all over the USA, but it was a lot of hard work that kept us going from 6:00AM till 9 or 10PM each day. Between setting up the field, flying the events, loading and unloading equipment, repairing planes and preparing for the next day’s events, there just never seemed like enough hours in the day. Ric and I couldn’t have done it without Mike DeBoer and Mike McGowan’s help.
Competition in the RC hobby is dying out with the increase of just pure fun fly's. The AMA has 160,000 + members and only about 1200 compete at the NATS each year. Any AMA member can compete in or watch any of the events at the NATS, which takes place each summer. You can check out pictures and results from the NATS in the AMA magazine later this year. I plan to go again next year and hope to see you there.

There has been much activity concerning the location of a new field.

The search for either a short term or long term location is still in progress.
Tom Huckaby is going through some information from some lumber companies.
Old Business:
No old business.
New Business :
Everyone needs to keep looking for possible sights.
Since we are currently without a field the calendar of events has been
suspended until further notice.
Setting aside seed money for SEFF 2005 is being discussed and any member input
would be appreciated.
More member support of SEFF is needed and a possibility of moving the event to
April is being investigated.
