Meeting Minutes for July 25, 2002 by Ernie Schlumberger

President, Tommy Vinci brought the meeting to order at 7:35p.m. at the field with 28 members and 2 member applicants in attendance.

Officer Reports:

Secretary Ernie Schlumberger and New Member/Training Officer David Keller had nothing new to report.

Treasurer, Dave Zeigler, went over the treasurer report. The club had $1486.00 in receipts from Event income, SEFF income and Membership dues and $1435.90 in expenses from Field Maintenance, Internet and Christmas Party Deposit.

President, Tommy Vinci announced the Christmas Party had to be moved to Sunday, December 8th due to the Gathering Place being booked for Saturday December 7th.

Tommy then asked if anyone had any problems with RESCHEDULING THE WINSHAPE HOMES CHARITY FUN FLY from August 24th to September 7th. No one objected. The website Calendar of Events will be updated to reflect the changes.

Vice President, Tom Huckaby thanked those that helped make the All Cub Fun Fly a success. There were 32 Cubs and 25 Pilots which included 11 quarter scale Cubs and 8 third scale Cubs. Pilots came from several clubs in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Louisiana.

Tommy Vinci then gave an update on the status of our field. A letter was delivered to Mr. Weiland (Prospective new owner) and Tommy went over the response. The letter said that he would work with us on staying on our field until the development actually begins. The letter also stated that there are a few problems with the property that need to be resolved before the purchase is complete. He offered help in finding a suitable piece of property such as flood plain or other undesirable development properties.

Old Business:

Member, Phil Meyers (heading up committee looking into setting up an owner/member type club) had a meeting scheduled with Fayette County Commissioner but it was cancelled due to a family emergency. Phil said that he had talked to him on the phone and he felt the county might have options that are worth looking into. Another meeting will be scheduled. Phil also asked all members to look for possible field locations that can be explored.

Member, Jeff Myers asked all members if they know who owns the Palmetto Airport and Holiday Downs Horse Race Track for possible contact about use for an event.

New Business:

Member, Clare Schlumberger, suggested maybe adding another rule to the Club Safety Rules to discourage any full-scale aircraft (including ultra light aircraft) from extremely low flybys at the field. Clare tabled the discussion for this meeting but may put it in a motion for the next meeting.

Member, Stan McCullough brought up the practice of breaking in Gas/Glow Engines in the pit area. He suggested that they be broken in at home, upper field, parking lot or behind the pine trees near the storage shed. Stan made a motion to add to the Field Rules that: "NO BREAKING IN OF ENGINES IN THE PIT AREA. IT MUST BE DONE AT LEAST 300 FEET FROM THE PIT AREA/ PILOT SHELTER". The motion was seconded and voted on and passed. This item will be added to the Field Rules.

New Members:

This month we had 2 new members join our ranks. Please welcome Harlan Quamme and Marc DiBiase to our club and help them as they get into the hobby.

Broken Prop:

Steve Brownlee was nominated for crashing Drew Marvin’s Ultra Stik 40 during the Family Cook Out Day. Steve was taking a turn at the sticks on Drew’s airplane when he got it into a spin and couldn’t recover.
