The end of March brought an end to flying at the Cathy property. Thanks to some very hard working members, most of our equipment and structures have been dismantled and moved. The Site Search Committee has been diligently working on following up every possible property lead. Thanks especially to Tom Huckaby and David Keller for all the hours of legwork and phone calls involved in tracking down information and property owners.
The first weekend in April, a contingent of Fayette Flyers traveled way up north to Toledo to attend the 49th Annual Toledo R/C Exposition. One highlight of the trip was a stop at the incredible (and FREE!) Air Force Museum in Dayton. If you’ve never gone, it is well worth the trip. Allow yourselves plenty of time and bring lots of film for your camera, there’s a lot to see.
Meeting Minutes for March 27, 2003 by Ernie Schlumberger
President, Tommy Vinci brought the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m. with 19 members in attendance in room D18 of the Lafayette Education Center (Old High School).
Officer Reports:
New Member/Training Officer David Keller said that all club training will be suspended during the time the club is without a field.Treasurer, David Zeigler went over the club’s financial report for March 2003. The club had $435 in receipts from Membership Dues and $220 in expenses from Porta-Potty, AMA Renewal and $50 Donation to AMA in memory of George Perryman. This leaves the club with a total of $12, 504.82.
Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger reported that the club stands at 130 members and all non-renewed members will be deleted from the roster on April 1st.Vice President, Paul DeWaard reported that our field will close on April 1st and the owner has added a lock to our gate so that either lock will open the gate.
President, Tommy Vinci will call a Work Day to clear our (club’s) stuff off the property and put it into storage. Tommy also informed the members present that the Executive Committee has been looking at fields for our use. They have investigated or looked at almost 80-100 pieces of property and have a couple of promising leads. He asked all members to notify the Officers if they have any possible site ideas so they can be investigated and looked at for possible use.
Special Reports:
Tom Huckaby
talked about the Fayette School System Mentor Program. They are asking for volunteers to sign up for next year’s program. Just 1 hour a week to help a kid that needs it.SEFF Coordinator, Jeff Meyers said that the SEFF Event Pre-Registrations are starting to roll in. More vendors are also signing up too.
Old Business:
We are still looking for a new site to hold our monthly meetings. This is due to parking concerns with the limited parking at the Old High School since more night classes were added. We will continue to meet at the Old High School until another location is found.
New Business:
Tom Huckaby contacted the Griffin Club’s President about the possibility of using their field for the "All Cub Event" in July if we don’t have a field by then. Tom asked all those present if there was any objection to moving the event. No objections were made. He will proceed with firming up plans to hold it there. (Follow-up: as of now the event has been sanctioned at the Griffin Club’s Field.)New Members:
